tide

my mother warned me about the ocean
she said,
“be careful of the tide,
how it ebbs and flows,
like emotions,
it’s temporary.
never venture out too deep,
without being firmly anchored
or having no semblance of survival –
many have taken the risk,
many have failed.
stay afloat.
there are many life boats,
but will they rescue you,
when you can’t save yourself?”
